7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Where: Farmstead at Westport Drumlin, 5208 Bong Rd, Waunakee WI 53597
Who: FREE and open to the public. Registration is required and space is limited. (See link below to register on the Groundswell Conservancy's website.)
What: Join us for an Evening Under the Stars at Westport Drumlin! Don't miss this opportunity to learn about constellations (there's an app for that!), how the sky changes over the year, and what exactly the Milky Way is and when can we see it.
Our field trip leaders, Paul Kaarakka and Rick Wayne, are excited to share the wonders of the night sky with us. Paul Kaarakka was introduced to astronomy in 1972 by a neighbor with a telescope who showed him an early morning conjuction of several planets. He has been hooked ever since! Rick Wayne came to astronomy through his love and work in photography. He became entranced by how new photo tech enables night-sky imaging and leapt into that with both feet!
They will have several different scopes set up for viewing the night sky, where we hope to see: The Andromeda Galaxy, The Ring Nebula in Lyrae, Venus's crescent, Jupiter and its "Galilean" moons, Sturn and Mars. This is a family-friendly event -- we encourage kids to join us!
What to Bring: Please bring appropriate clothing (layers), water and boots if you wish.
Thank you to our sponsors: First Business Bank, Fontana Sports, Donde LLC, Stark Company Realtors
Join our friends at the Groundswell Conservancy for an Evening Under the Stars, a Free event for anyone wanting to learn more about the stars over Wisconsin! As long-time supporters, and with one of our owners, John, serving as President over the years, we are excited to introduce the community to so many of their educational events. See stars. Don't miss out!
