The year’s almost over. It’s been a challenging one fishing wise because Mother Nature became one tough mother and dealt us a couple tough hands with 100-year floods occurring multiple times and late spring snow storms. When weather and water returned to normal, the fishing was great on all fronts with lots of big fish caught in both cold and warm water fisheries. Thank you all for remaining positive during the tough times and continuing to fish around our area.
If you need your fishing fix now, the northeast Iowa trout streams are the only game going. You’ll be using the same deep nymphing and streamer techniques used during the early trout season, with trout surface feeding on midges on warm sunny days. The cold temperatures have brought the Lake Michigan tributaries to below 38 degrees so they’re done fishing for the year.
Early Trout Season Opens January 5, 2019 so we’ll be back on our beloved spring creeks before we know it!
